       Crescent Day!

Sunday, August 7th

The one week delay was well worth it!  The weather was great and just ask the 20 kids and the numerous "big kids" about how fun it was!  This is a tradition where Thistle Fleet #2 runs this all day event for the kids.  It is sponsored by CSYC.
Check out photos of the Watermelon Race and Shoe Box Race below.

Credit where credit is due - Thanks to all of the helpers!
Lori Swetka - for helping me shop for all the stuff...I hate shopping...and helping all day.
Brendon Swetka - helping to run the race, load and unload stuff, and helping out all day.
Chris and Wendy Hawksley - for buying the pies, two weeks in a row!  Also for buying the ice cream that I totally forgot about...
Greg and Mel Gerhardstein - for setting up the watermelon race and for organizing the stuff last year to make this year easier.  Mel also was a judge in the shoe box race.
Wick and Mary Smith - Wick for shoe box retrieval and Mary was a judge in the shoe box race.
Ron Sherry - for running some of the games near the end when I was stressed!  He says his favorite is the peanut in the flour contest.
You can always count on all of the parents who show up for this to lend a hand.  Everyone who was there helped out in one way or another.  Thanks to all!

Watermelon Race

Thanks to Greg and Mel for setting a perfect crazy "W" shaped course.  The basic "rules" are everyone has to be behind the start line either anchored, sails down, capsized, or whatever is decided that morning by the rulemaker (me...).  Near the finish a bunch of watermelons are be dropped.  You must grab a watermelon and finish.  Afterwards we get to eat the melons!

Although we award trophies for this, everyone is a winner as you can tell by the smiles!

Here is how it looked.  You can click on each picture to get a higher resolution image.  If anyone want originals, let me know.

Prestart preparation...waiting for everyone to look as disorganized as possible.
